Knit

For my final degree show collection, I have been mostly working on the 4 gauge Dubied hand-flat knitting machine, using a plating technique and mixing textures such as racking and cabling on the front.

The blankets and cushions are knitted using 100% lambs wool.

The colours reflect the colours of the Aran Island landscape and include the grey of the stone-walls as their base, mixed in with other colours of the sea, sky, flora and fauna.

They are knitted on a 4 gauge Dubied hand-flat knitting machine using both beds to create a double-sided fabric which becomes soft and luxurious once washed.

Here are some of the final knit samples:

Each blanket and cushion is individually hand-knitted using the Dubied machine and is also finished by hand to create totally unique items, that will last for years and can be handed down to younger generations as heirlooms, just like the Aran’s that inspired them.

I've also worked on the Shima Seiki knitting machine to create 100% lambswool blankets, again double sided tubular knit with fairisle and cables, combining both the vector chevrons and cables together.
