Print

I have created repeat pattern prints based on my aran inspired knitwear and ink and bleach drawings. The collection includes printed fabrics and wallpapers.

There are many companies offering bespoke wallpaper printing, but most require an “overlap” of borders, which is not consistent with traditional wallpaper methods.

Here are some repeat pattern prints made using the original ink and bleach drawings to inform the design:

I therefore undertook a research trip to visit to one of the oldest wallpaper printing companies in the UK. Working closely with them I have created a range of digitally printed wallpapers that are printed using 100% recyclable papers and HP Latex inks.

The patterns are in repeat in either 13cm, 26cm or 52cm repeat tile widths.

The fabrics are printed on 100% polyester using disperse dyes on the MTEX 1800 printer which has an in-line heat polymerisation unit. This new direct-to-fabric printer which was launched last year, does not require the fabric to be pre-treated or steamed, which means wastage is reduced significantly compared to other digital textile printers. The result when washed, is a range of beautifully soft and durable fabric that is suitable for interiors or fashion.

There’s no scrap paper (as used in dye-sub transfer print), and the fabric does not require steaming after printing. This hugely reduces the impact of producing these fabrics on the environment compared to traditional methods. The fabrics themselves are 100% recyclable.
