Degree Results & New Designers

Well the results are in and I'm very proud to announce that I achieved a first class honours degree in Textile Design. The results came in a day late but it was worth it and I celebrated with a double-shot latte - woo! Many more celebrations to come I think over the Summer.

But before that: and there's more....

I am delighted that my work was chosen to be exhibited at New Designers exhibition in London on the 25th - 28th June at the Business Design Centre in Islington. The next week or so will be spent deciding which pieces to display and am keeping my fingers crossed that this exhibition will open up new opportunities and collaborations to further my work.

If you want to attend, click here and it will take you to the booking form, however I have one or two VIP tickets still available so please contact me directly if you want one.

See you there!

Direct Disperse Digital Textile Printing with MTEX

Well we've started to set up for our degree show now, all hands on deck this week for our display exhibits. I thought I'd add a glimpse into the print process for my fabrics.

All the fabrics for my degree show were printed on the MTEX 3.2m wide direct-to-textile printer using disperse dye inks and in-line dye-sub fixation. The colours are vibrant and photo realistic, much more accurate than other digital methods I've used before.

I was lucky enough to have the fabrics printed by MTEX Technologies at a trade show at no cost, so effectively, they have sponsored the fabric printing for my degree show. I'm very grateful to the lads there for printing my files, it saved me hundreds of pounds and I couldn't be happier with the result.

Here's a video of the fabrics being printed:

And here's a sneak preview of the fabrics for the show.

Bradford Textile Society Awards 2013/14

I'm very proud to announce that I've been commended for my entry in the annual Bradford Textile Society Awards.

Established in 1893, the Bradford Textile Society is the oldest textile society in Britain, if not in the world. Despite all the changes which have taken place in the textile industry since its formation, the Society continues to thrive.

I've entered three years running and am so delighted to have a commendation from such a prestigious organisation - can't wait for the awards night on the 13th of May! I'll post pics then.

Introduction

Welcome to my mini-website - showcasing the best of my work from my Degree Show.

About me

Born and bred in Ireland, I've lived in the East Midlands for over 20 years. My studio is based in the creative hub of Banks Mill Studios, a converted Victorian Mill in the centre of Derby.

My specialisms are knit and print and I combine both to create functional, aesthetically pleasing and tactile products for interiors. Fifteen years experience working with wide format digital printer manufacturers has allowed me to understand that with today's technology, there really are no restrictions on what can be printed.

This website sets out to run along side my final degree show and will explain the inspiration, techniques and processes that underpin my work.
